This is probably the most beautiful knife that I own. I have a leather sheath that I carry it in. From the factory, it was razor sharp, the blade opening is so smooth, and the quality of the stag and fit of the bolsters is amazing. The liner lock holds the blade very securly and has no play whatsoever.

I call it my "Sunday Go To Meeting Knife" I usually only carry it whan I am going to more formal functions i.e. Church, Boy Scout Court of Honors etc.. I was hesitant to put much hard use on it but as is always the case, most of the time I am the only one with a pocket knife available. While it hasn't been used on camping or fishing trips, it has been used for so many other things around the house or on outings.

I have always been a fan of Case Knives and the Stag Trapper Lock is a show stopper.

Not much that I can add to the previous reviews. This tool is amazing. It is really not a machete in the normal sense, because the blade is too thick for slashing through light foliage. But it will do just about anything else. From the comfortable grip all the way to the sharpened square tip, this thing is a work horse. It chops better than a hatchet because it has such a long area to contact the wood. I have used it as a pull knife to shape wood for camp gadgets, shelters, etc.. It is so beefy that it requires little effort when chopping or trimming wood. I love the sheath, it is so versatile I can hang it from my belt, or use some paracord to attach it to the molle webbing on my backpack I have seen reviews that said that the SP-8 could not be withdrawn from the sheath without unsnapping all of the snaps, but the sheath that came with mine may have been slightly redesigned by moving the rivet near the top closer to the edge, I only have to unsnap the top strap, and tilt the SP-8 slightly to remove it from the sheath.

It goes with me on all of my campouts with my son's Boy Scout troop. It holds and edge very well, and is easy to resharpen. I have to keep it hidden away or all of the other campers will be trying to borrow it

I would have given the SP-8 all 10s, but, as stated in other reviews, the sawback leaves some to be desired, but it will do in a pinch if no other saw is available.

Overall, you can't go wrong with this survival tool, especially for the price. I find myself reaching for this almost exclusively while doing any outdoor chores.

Great job Ontario Knives

I just received my SP-8 from The Knife Center and I absolutely agree with this review. I do believe the "notch" in the blade has to do with balance. The designers did a great job with its shape. I live in Florida and our woods are very thick and I believe that a short machete is more ideal than a long machete. A long machete gets caught in the over-hang vines and branches. I am glad he clarified the saw back is to be used as a "notcher". My primary use is: Self-Defense and survival, batoning fire wood (I can't see harming a $200 knife for this) and for lopping off the heads of large fish. I live on the Tampa Bay and struggle cleaning fish. I also own a Woodsmen's Pal but find it lacking...and it's hard to sharpen. The SP-8 would be a cinch to re-sharpen because of its flat blade. The weight is not terrible! The momentum of that heavier blade zips right through wood. The more I use the sheath--the more I like it. I may make my own Kydex sheath so it can be deployed faster in an emergency. Good job with the review.

Appreciation for this write-up. I've seen this tool take so much flak for the 'saw', that this seems to be a good place to mention that it's not intended to be a saw - it's a notching tool designed to create a entry points so that the chisel built onto the end may be employed. Think: log cabin or similar construction. Great Tool!

It has great ergos and a great attention to detail. If you are looking for a pocket knife that will really excel out in the woods, the Gekko 1500 you be a great option.

This is one of the first Puma Knives I have really had a chance to get my hands on and use extensively. I was not expecting alot from the 440A steel, but they did a good heat treat on this blade and it held an edge like a good AUS-8. The Rest of the knife works well for a hunting utility knife. I would only recommend with the bone handle version if you are going to display the knife. The micarta version will be much better for field use with its extra traction.

Everyone claim this is "outdoors" or bushcraft knife but I say that this can be prefect every day carry ! Small, light, easy to be carry with nice sheath definitely better than any folder. Plus - very cheap !!!! plus easy to be resharpen without any special honing tools
In my country in East Europe I have no problems with caring any knives, nunchakus, tonfa i.e any cold steel or impact weapons. If I wish I can carry even medieval sword - no problems with police
Hopefully we have a goods politics in this aspect.
So if there is no law problems in your country for carry fix blade knives - choose this one! The best ever choice for every day carry !

This knife is for one purpose only and that is self defense. The knife is stupid sharp This is not a bushcraft knife or an EDC knife unless you are station in Afghanistan or in a war zone. It has a well made sheath. The serrations on the top of the knife are useless and as dull as a butter knife. As a fighting knife I would give it a 9, as a multi-purpose knife I would give it a 5. I gave mine to my son for his next deployment.

The Sage 2 is slightly smaller than the average size EDC knife. It is very high quality in every way. The fit and finish is absolutely flawless. The Sage 2 is rock solid but light weight. I doubt there is a better value titanium frame lock knife on the market. Well done Spyderco.

Sidekick is your basic multitool but with spring assisted pliers (like it's counterpart Wingman). Sidekick has straight blade and a shorter serrated blade. It has a lousy file/ruler/screwdriver which is either too small or too large (too small for filing, too short for actual ruler and too large for a small flat head), can opener, phillips and larger flat head screw driver a saw and a belt clip. Straight blade and saw are lockable, other tools are not. IF you are right handed, you can easily open the blade one handed, if you are lefty then the saw is your OHT.

The only thing that speaks in favor of this tool (and Wingman) are the spring assisted pliers, but other than that, I'd suggest Rebar over either of these two.
