The Schrade SCHF24 is another great budget offering from Schrade. For a very good price you are getting a knife with G-10 handles, kydex sheath, and ergonomic design. The 8cr13mov steel is a good budget steel, but will need to be resharpened and maintained on a regular bases. The blade design is perfect for utility/defensive uses. This is totally worth a purchase for the price you are paying!

I was buying a survival knife but obviously misread the length of the blade which falls about one inch short for something I'd call a survival knife. However since it was my mistake I have to adjust the review accordingly.

As an outdoor knife BOB is the best of it's size I have used. It's heavy enough not to feel cheap, blade is thick and has some notching for the thumb in case you want to do some fine tuned work with the knife. Thick blade makes it almost impossible to bend.

Handle feels very comfortable in hand and it gives you a firm non-slipping surface. You won't get blisters with this knife.

But... Always the but. Sheath is just plain awful piece of work. Belt loop is thin spring metal with quite sharp edges. Sheath is a simple kydex or such mold with additional 'pocket' for a firestarter (ferro magnesium rods glued together).

The firestarter itself is a great bonus but in this price range I'd hoped for a nylon / cordura sheath with a pocket.

For outdoor / camping / hunting this is a solid choice but for survival I'd go with a longer blade knife which is better at hacking / chopping.

Pro:
- Rock solid construction, this is a sledgehammer of a knife, everything is heavy-duty, from the massive frame to the very tight spring to the blade itself. You could literally split logs with this thing. Fun to beat up.
- highly resilient surfaces, tough to scratch, no rust.
- bad-ass looks

Con:
- First time I've ever encountered purely decorative thumb studs. They're totally extraneous - can't open the knife with them (positioned wrong, too small, spring mechanism too tight), nor do they serve any locking function. Just plain silly.
- WORST pocket clip EVER. Hard to believe Hinderer/Kershaw could commit such a travesty. Sure, like Mark says below it rides nice and low in the pocket, but it's as flimsy as the rest of the knife is solid. The screws tear your pocket, the finish is cheap. Aesthetically it bears zero relation to the rest, an afterthought at best.
- Too heavy for an EDC, too small for a tactical or hunter
- blade needs frequent sharpening

OVERALL:
- Looks like a serious knife, weighs like a serious knife, costs like a (relatively) serious knife. But this isn't a serious knife. It doesn't know what it wants to be, like a short dude with huge muscles - can't be a jockey cuz he's too heavy, can't play football cuz he's too short. This knife shouldn't cost 40 bucks. I've got 20-dollar knives that are much better designed overall. Only positives here are the looks, finishes and structural solidity.

Pro:
- Aesthetically gorgeous
- Precision construction, tight tolerances, perfectly centered blade, very solid framelock with zero wobble
- Blade steel is perfect for my purposes as a bartender (opening beer and liquor cases mostly, cuts through two thicknesses of heavy cardboard effortlessly - plus it also reminds ornery customers not to mess with me when they see me use it!) In six months of everyday use I've only had to sharpen it once, as compared to my decommissioned Cryo, which required sharpening every week.
Con:
- slippery when wet
- Mr. Onion prioritized looks when designing the clip, it rides too high in the pocket
Overall:
- a little gem of a gentleman's folder, highly recommended

I love this knife. I used the tanto version for about 4 years and sadly it was stolen. I'm sure they'll get many years of use out of it too.

I just bought another one. The overall thin construction is ideal for every day pocket carry. It sharpens nicely and holds an edge for a long time. Overall construction is solid. Great ergonomics. I've owned Benchmades, Gerbers, CRKT etc. This has been my favorite EDC folder.

The Kershaw Camp Ax is a great option when you are on a budget and you are looking for a full tang hatchet for your campsite. It has a good weight at just under a pound and has a strong high carbon steel blade then holds its edge well. The sheath is ok, but will need to be upgraded to a leather one at some point. All in all a good option for a cheap hatchet.

Smith and Wesson M and P Drop Point

-Price Paid: $63.00

Comments:

Typical EDC knife from company which is not famous with a good quality knives. The most typical feature is assisted opening which however work pretty good. This model is with partially serrated blade but 40% not 50% which for me is good - provide more space for plain blade cutting.
The blade is however the most thin among all of my knifes - 3.5 mm and according to length - too short by my opinion. Made by not top quality steel 4043 for me is too fragile for any more heavy duty tasks although have an aggressive and good design. The serration is pretty good and standard - do not require a special sharpening instrument as this used by Cold Steel for example.
Locking is liner lock and up to this moment - no blade play however I use knife only for lightweight tasks.
The handle is more thick than most of the common folders also with aggressive but not very comfortable design. Ends with glass breaker spike which however is very small - I test it - works but require 3-5 hits especially if you brake thicker glass. One of my concern was for reverse grab (or how you call in USA - ice pick grab) - but surprisingly, the knife is very comfortable to be hold in this position even with thumb on spike - I not feel it at all.
The handle have a grooves sideways which make it comfortable for side holding and cutting by this way.
One of mentioned disadvantage in the reviews is the luck of hole in the handle, but I personally never use this in my knives. There is a hole however, but in the clip, which is strange! The clip is good, hold knife secure in the pocket.
As whole - good looking, cheap, lightweight knife suitable for most of common every day tasks. If you use frequently a knife and want a fast opening folder, this is the choice. Definitely city folder - the blade is thin and too fragile. The thinner blade from other hand make knife more suitable for typical everyday city cutting tasks. I have a friend who is botanist and have the same - he claim, the knife is suitable for cutting plants and sample taking.
Suitable for self-defense - the end of the handle although is not very comfortable due to the "fat point design" is very suitable knife to be used as kubotan.
Good for ladies, due to assisted opening - I brought one for my girlfriend and she love it.
