Good for slashing/cutting cord, rope, webbing /opening packages, cutting cardboard...Tip is sturdy you may be able to do light prying. Not that good in slicing - Food prep can be much harder. I would buy a full drop point if they had one. Milf 01 could be a good defense knifee based on the design

HHA have been making fixed blades and tomahawks for a while, but this is their first folder. They have done a good job for their first dive into pocket knives. The knife is very good quality and built to last under hard use. The two things are that it weights 7.4oz. and costs $219. So, you have to design if it is worth the price and weight.

Comments:

The Explorer is a Stainless Steel take on a mid weight survival knife. The problem that I immediately ran into was the short hollow grind they chose to put on this knife. It was difficult to reshapen and did not perform well at all in most survival bushcraft tasks. Almost everything else about the knife I love. If they make a new version with a saber grind or FFG this knife would really shine.

I love camp knives, knives that are around 5" in blade length, because they are small enough to carry on you all over your campsite, can capable of doing everything around you camp except chopping. The Baja 4.5 comes onto the seen to meet those requirements and I have to tell you the blade is awesome. The handle not so much.

Comments:

I like military grade pocket knives. Generally speaking, they are rugged and well thought out tools where form follows function. And the Gerber E-Z Out DPSF pocket folder is no exception to this rule. The half serrated blade is both practical and strong, with perfectly placed thumb jimping. As for the scales, they are a one-piece light-weight composite with acceptable stippling that is augmented by two rubber inserts. The ergonomics are very well suited for large hands, in less than perfect weather conditions. The back lock is both positive and sturdy, with the standard military half stop blade position. Lastly, the pocket clip is fairly strong and will work well with webbing. If I have one knock on this knife it's the thumb hole deployment, it's just not a Spyderco thumb hole! So if you're in the market for a high quality military grade utility knife, you won't do much better than the Gerber E-Z Out DPSF folder!

I've EDC'd this for over 10 years. Literally wore out 2 blades which were replaced under warranty. If there is a 1 tool option, this may be the one. The stainless construction is durable and the tools were generally adequate to the task. Preferred the heavier scissors on the older model though. Large Zip ties are a bit too much for them to handle. In a "no weapons area" this is a tool, not a weapon. Much handier than just a knife, but it will be heavier to carry. I can highly recommend this tool.

The SRK (survival rescue knife) has been around for almost 30 years. That is saying something about it's design. The only thing that has change is the steel used in the design over the last 3 decades. In this most recent version they are using a chunk of VG-1 steel. This knife is a classic field knife that is very capable in utility tasks.

(Note that the price I paid was in Canadian Dollars.)

This is a very good knife overall. The blade came quite sharp (I would say possibly a bit too sharp for a machete, but I’m not an expert), and it isn’t wide enough for CS to put their usual infuriating sticker on it. The sheathe serves its purpose very well, and I would have no reason not to trust it. No major imperfections in the blade that I’ve noticed.

One problem that this item has is that the handle is uncomfortable. Your mileage may vary, as I do have relatively small hands for a man of over six feet, but I have let others handle it and they agree with me. I feel like using this machete would be murder on my hand. As for the sturdiness of the handle, I am quite impressed. Part of the reason it’s so uncomfortable is the beefy construction of the handle, and while I can’t speak to the internal aspects of it (how far the tang extends and how well it’s anchored, etc.), I would be very, very surprised if this machete failed to perform.

With all things considered -low price, generally good quality, intimidating profile, and solid construction- I would recommend it. As a weapon, I would trust it. As a tool for heavy duty chopping for long periods of time, I’ll stick with their Kukri machete. Since a machete is primarily a tool for heavy duty chopping, perhaps look elsewhere unless “cheap, sturdy substitute for a sword” is what you’re looking for. If that is what you’re looking for, you can’t go far wrong with this.

If you want my advice, buy the CS Kukri Machete first, as I would say it's a better machete for a lower cost. However, I will likely own the entire CS machete line eventually, as I've been pretty impressed with the two I own for the price I've paid for them.

I have now bought 5 of these - no I have not destroyed all of them.
I bought each of my children one. They are an awesome bit of kit.
The only gripe I have is because the blade is more than 3 inch I cannot
carry it in the UK and as it has a locking mechanism again it's banned.
Never have I heard such utter bollox from politicians.
I am allowed to carry a very large amount of ammonium nitrate fertilizer
plus other required items without problem but carry a knife of 1 inch with A LOCKING BLADE and your locked up !!
Madness and we elected these idiots
This Knife is Excellent.

I have been a SOG fan for over 10 years ,and still am.However ,I think they screwed up on this knife.I used it once sharpening 3 inch wooden poles and it broke right at the handle.Needless to say,i was shocked. The part that goes into the handle is about 1/3 the size of the blade and is a very weak point. If you want a inexpensive quality fixed blade i would not recommend the Fixation bowie.I spent an additional $50 and replaced it with a SOG Force which has proven very tough and dependable in the field-as i am a guide and avid outdoorsman in Alaska.

Small, compact tactical/utility knives are hard to find. Especially ones that are design with that in mind and not bushcraft/edc use. Hardcore Hardware has decided to meet that need with the LFK series. Good quality and design features that help with tactical applications make this a unique and useful blade.

The JG3 is a very good small bushcraft knife. It has good ergos, 90 degree spine, and at 1/8" thick is a great slicer. The leather sheath is not great, and the price is a little high for the materials and size. I think that if you like the design you will love the knife, in-spite of its price and sheath.
