I'll be brief and blunt:The Becker Knife and Tools/KaBar is a portable sharpened wedge of 1095 steel with a handle. A square pommel services as a hitting surface for a hammer. It comes with slippery handle scales (which loosen themselvesafter prolonged use) and a kydex sheath with floppy belt attachement. It's main charm and hype is customizing via paint stripper, rehandling and it's community supporting Becker Knife and Tools.Initial design, handle and blade ergonomics turn it into an impeding tool. Too short for most tasks and too heavy for about anything but outdoor and survival. As such however, the BK2 Campanion has proven to be a everlasting tool, seeing as there is hardly anything in the woods that could scathe the blade. It functions similar to a hatchet or a small axe but does everything a little worse and with painful handle vibrations.

I've carried a Recruit all over the world and have never found it not up to whatever task I threw at it. The blades are very sharp out of the box and hold a good edge for a long time. The screwdriver tips, while not the best and a bit rounded, are better than using a coin or some other improvised tool. The can opener is the best on any pocket tool and the bottle lifter, well, works as advertised. The Recruit doesn't have the myriad of tools it's bigger brothers do, but it's hard to beat for a true pocket knife with multiple functions. I've gifted these knives to many folks over the years and will never be without one!

Got as a gift, heavier than expected, but solid. Lock up is very secure and the thumb studs are well placed, rounded and easy to use. I remove the pocket clip from all my knives, but this one is well designed. Great knife!

I have had this for over 8 years. This tool is by far the greatest I have ever owned! I have owned a couple of Gerbers before and have had problems with them. I have not had one problem with this at all! Well...there was one thing, the handles became loose over the years of use and the tool would open with almost no effort. I find that to be VERY minor due to all of the abuse I put that multitool through! There were times when I thought the blade was going to snap on me but it held strong and did not stay bent or break. That is truly amazing! I sent it back to Leatherman for repair and they sent me this new one with the scredriver bits. My old one didnt have those. This new one is AWESOME! I kniw it will give me many more years of service just like my older one did. Leatherman started the multitool business so if you are going to get one, get a Leatherman, it is worth the money! Even if I had to go into a survival situation, I would choose my Leatherman Wave over my Swiss Army Knife any day! The saw on the Leatherman can cut like no other! If you dont have one and are thinking of getting one, I highly suggest looking at Leatherman Tools!

This knife really caught my eye when I saw it so I figured I would give it a try. I purchased the tanto combo. After I got it, it did lose the edge pretty quick on it. I sharpened it up pretty good and it has held the edge pretty good ever since. It has a great design and it does take a little getting used to as far as opening it goes. I do find the thumb studs useless and still to this day have not been able to open it using them (always use the flipper on the back). I am not too big a fan of the pocket clip either. It is real narrow and I feel it should be little wider. It does hold the knife in your pocket pretty good though! I also found myself having to tighten up the main pivot screw on the front (the big screw). It comes loose so often, I find it being a chore having to constantly check it. I have heard some people say that it has never come undone on them and I have also heard a lot say that it constantly does also. I guess its a luck of the draw! Overall this is a descent knife but I feel that CRKT could have put some better materials into this knife to ensure that problems such as this one wouldnt happen.

I think for the money you spend on this knife, it is one of the better options you can go with! YOU CANNOT GO WRONG!!! This knife is very sturdy, has a very good lockup, is assisted opening and is a bit on the heavier side but feels as if it is not going to fall apart anytime soon! I had returned the Gerber "Bear Grylls Survivor Series" Folding Sheath Knife due to it beginning to fall apart on me, so I picked this one up and was really shocked when I opened it and saw how solid this thing was! I had heard GREAT reviews about this knife so I figured I would give it a shot. It gives you the option to carry tip up or tip down (which is a plus for a cheaper knife). I havent had it for that long but I have total faith that this knife will hold up under pressure! It came out of the box very sharp and I have cut a couple of boxes with it and it still has a pretty sharp edge on it.

Gerber Bear Grylls Folding Sheath Knife

Comments:

I purchased this knife (not because I am a fan of Bear Grylls) but because I had seen a lot of good reviews about it so I figured I would check out all the hype. When I opened the box, the knife was VERY sharp! When I put the knife in my hands, the grip on it just feels AMAZING! You can have anything on your hands (oil, water etc..) and this knife is going to stay put and you are going to have comfort doing any task at hand! I figured I would perform a few cut tests on it cuting various pieces of wood. It cut right through them everytime and never game me a hiccup. I did not do any splitting tests but I did chop at a little bit of wood (maybe about 20-30 chops) and the blade was just eating away at anything that got in its way. When I finished, I noticed the back bottom end of the frame was starting to come apart already! It wasnt literally about to break apart but with more moderate use, I think it will eventually end up splitting. I put that thing back in the box and took it back to Academy! This knife if marketed as the "survival series" and I do not think that it will hold up if you have to actually use it for any long term survival. It might do okay in a 3 day "bug out" bag but im not sure if I would trust it beyond that. If you purchase one of these, or are thinking about purchasing one, I suggest you inspect it very closely and make sure it will hold it up when you need it most!

I purchased this knife a few years ago played with it for a few days and pretty much set it aside for a while. After wanting to carry something a little smaller, I reached for this one and began to carry it. I must say that the blade lock is just plain silly! I have never found a time that I needed it or a time when it opened up in my pocket. This knife came very sharp out of the box and help up the edge pretty good. To me, the blade does seem a bit on the week side and I havent really put it through some hard use because I am afraid of breaking it (more towards the tip of it). The knife is very light and you can almost forget that you have it in your pocket at times. The grip on it feels pretty good in the hand (almost like a soft plastic but is pretty tough). I have had friends with larger hands complain about the grip because their hands will swallow the knife up, but IT IS a smaller knife, so what would they expect? I have medium sized hands and it fits me perfect! This knife was very useful when opening up packages, opening up mail, cutting boxes and other light duty type stuff. In a self defense situation, this might not be the first thing I reach for but if it is all you have, they WILL feel it! This little thing is very pointy and is pretty sharp as well so I think it would do enough to get them off of you and allow you to get away! If you are looking for a small knife to accomplish little task or possibly a knife to get your wife or girlfriend, I think you should give this one a look! By the way, when my wife saw this one, she liked it and said it was cute until she opened it not knowing that it was assisted opening and it scared her to death! This knife is very fast when it opens!

I purchased this knife at a gun show (5 to be exact) and the price on them was 15.00 but the guy let me have them for 10.00 for purchasing 5 of them. I gave them out as gifts and kept the tanto style one for myself. When I first began to play with it I noticed it was kinda stiff and took a little gettin used to. The blade was not that sharp out of the box and it took a while to get it nice and sharp but now that it has gotten there, it holds that edge pretty good! I started to carry this knife for a while and the more I used it and played with it, the easier it got to open. I do have to say...THIS KNIFE IS SOLID! I have put it through a lot of stuff and it is still ticking! Some people disagree with me, but you DO NOT have to spend a lot of money on a knife for it to be a EDC!!! This knife is perfect for that if you are looking for something cheap, reliable and will not break under pressure. The blade is not made in America but from what I was told, the rest of the knife is. The pocket clip is EXTREMELY stiff on it and you can rest assured that the knife will not be sliding out of your pocket. It kinda reminds me of a Glock firearm...it is bulky and not really something that catches your eye but it works everytime and holds up under loads of pressure. The only thing I wish KABAR would have done was give you the option to carry it tip up or tip down but for the price, you really cant complain! I suggest taking a look at one if you are in the market for a cheap reliable knife!

I recently purchased one of the newly redesigned Ka-Bar Warthog folders. It was so cheaply made I simply gave it away! Why Ka-Bar would ruin their reputation over a couple of extra pennies in profit is beyond me...

Comment by Stuart   06/13/2012
Forget "cheap"...Plain and simple, the Ka-Bar Warthog folder is a reliable EDC knife! Nate, you forgot to mention that the perfectly centered blade will not accidentally open in your pocket.

Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Knife

-Price Paid: $50.00

Comments:

I just used my ultimate knife for the first time last night on a deer I shot that day. What a great feel the knife has and very strong feeling and usability. It's a stout knife. After the deer was processed and I cleaned my knives I realized the blade, the sharpened edge was bent! Also the serated teeth were damaged. I cut meat, cut into bone to crack it and sawed through some bone and it messed up that much?!?! I called Gerber and they told me to send it to them and they would replace it and that it just happens some times. ?!?!?!

I bought this knife as a cheap EDC. And that's were it begins... I love this knife, so much that it sees more pocket time then my spyderco knives do. It fits in your hand like butter melts on warm toast. The steel is easy to touch up and I am to the point were 6 strokes on a creramic rod and I am good for at least 2-3 weeks. The Best EDC I have ever owned.

Good to hear the good comments! I have one coming in the mail. This knife isn't a fancy one, but by all I have heard should be a very tough one for a great price. Thanks for the review!
