Used this knife in the high mountains of Afghanistan 2005. We did not baby this knife in any way and I can't believe how well it looks after the entire squad put it to use. I have no trouble sharpening with the apex edge pro sharpener. Too heavy to carry on body for hikes. I straped mine to my ruck. Be warned, every Marine who held this knife now owns one. Bought mine through hedgehog leather works with one of their fantastic sheaths for it.

Ok, this knife comes with a manual for a reason! This is an excellent tool that will help you build a shelter, fire, prepare food, even self defense if you practice. The key is practice! Learn the uses of the knife, the way your grip is placed changes the leverage & angle of attack. The subtlety of what this blade can really do is up to how well you choose to learn it. Perfect? No nothing is perfect, however I have not used a better single blade in the woods. If you learn how to use it, your unstoppable!

knife sux to sharpen, hella expensive, coating is durable but stupid as it goes all the way to the cutting edge which is retarded.it does good for what its meant to (ie: chopping, etc) but not awesome.loved it at first but after a year its quite dull and virtually impossible to sharpen.TOPs has a sharpening service but kinda useless if it goes dull in the field and you have to send it in isnt it

also i forgot to add, the blade is coated with a black epoxy to prevent rusting but it makes it so you have to use the blade side with a flint to start a fire. if you are going to do so use another knife if you have one and use the tip as opposed to the base of the blade. if you dont have another knife use the very tip of the blade, as close as possible to the point.

this "knife" can do it all. it can carve, chop, split wood, be used as a drawing knife, notch, saw, and skin. it is the ultimate survival knife. i have used it minimally so to save the blade, but it does do everything it is supposed to. it is a well balanced knife and feels great in your hand. it comes with a kydex sheath but you can buy aftermarket leather ones. if you have seen the movie The Hunted with benecio del toro and tommy lee jones, the knife in that movie was based off of this one. this knife is big but when paired with the Tom Brown Scout (also reviewed on this site) they make a great survival team. here are the specs.

-Made from 1/4" 1095 High Carbon Alloy
-Coated in special black traction epoxy for rust proofing
-11.5" long overall length
-2.5" carving blade
-3.5" chopping blade
-Handles are gray micarta

Have had tis knife for some time now and if I had choice for trap building and small jobs, this is it. It cuts the small notches, preps fire wood and does everything I need it to do. No problems or worries since. The weight is just perfect for its purpose, worth every penny.

Nice to hear some positive comments about the Tom Brown Tracker knife! The heck with the hype and movie stuff, I have knives costing three times as much, but taking one knife into the wilderness, I'd grab the Tracker!

I too own one of these knives...There is a learning curve to using it but once you get the hang of it you will find that it will satisfy your needs.. I work with metal and have forged it for many years...The steel used in the Tracker sharpens easy and holds an edge..The shape of the blade takes practice to sharpen but once you learn how is no problem...The bottom line is if I only had one knife for use in the woods for survival this would be it...But who only carries one knife??? Hehe
