I've tried to find suitable boot knife for my needs and I finally found it. I've tried Daggert 2 and Glock M81 but they just didn't feel comfortable as boot knives.
Colts 8 5/8" Boot knife fits right in (shorter, 7" version available). Feels quite comfortable in hand. The handle is very heavily lacquered wood handle which I find to feel a bit plasticy rather than woody.
Blade is very sharp out of the box. It's double edged and full tang.
Some sites tells this is also a throwing knife but that is really not the case. Knife is balanced backwards quite a bit so throwing this would result very erratic spin.
I really like this knife because it's small enough to fit into a boot, it's not too daggery for it not to work on wood. Excellent value for money.

Scary sharp out of the box. The type of knife that looks it can walk right up and bite you. But grip ergonomics are good, not to worry. Sorta.

Sandvik steel holds its edge very well.

Scales are grippy.

Black blade coating (in my model) is durable.

Speed Safe assisted opening lightning fast and lockup solid and tight.

Excellent blade for practically any purpose.

I bought Colt knife just becuase it looked good on the pictures, but when I got it I found it a bit ugly, it felt light and skimpy. I kinda forgot it for a year and one day I needed a knife for something and this happend to lie around.
It has a back lock mechanism with lock release button on the side. Handle is made of aluminium, edge of the blade is something called cryoedge. The knife is very light, opening the blade is easy but the thumb stud had pretty sharp edges which I had to file down a bit.
Over time I started to appreciate the lightness of this knife and today I use it pretty much daily. Very easy to carry in pocket because you just don't know it's there.
Price/quality ratio is very good.

Comments:

These Colt knifes are made for throwing, not for survival/edc or so. Working on wood is rather tedious. So do not pick these up as your only knife.
These throwers are well balanced, the mid point is spot on between the blade and the handle. It's comfortably heavy (200g/7oz) and long (25cm/9.8"). It has very sharp point, the blade is about 5.4mm/0.212" at the thickest part.
Because this isn't ment for working with wood it isn't very sharp out of the box but sharpening it is quite easy. Even the rubberized handle feels comfortable and you get a good grip, it doesn't take many failed throws for the rubber to break (the steel in the handle breaks through). Luckily the rubber parts come off quite easily and you can replace it with paracord webbing.
The weight of a throwing knife is quite important; the lighter they are, they tend to 'float'. This floating effect is very visible when there's gusts of wind. Ofcourse if you have a very large and heavy knife, you'll need a bit more muscle to throw them.
This 200g is pretty ideal for beginners, these Colts dont float, they have enough hitting power to go through 1.5-2cm (0.6-0.8") board when thrown at 6m (20ft).
And some pointers to beginners:
Throw hard/fast but not at your maximum power when the aim suffers. Dare to throw, these knives won't break even when you hit a rock. Good starting distance is 3m (10ft). That distance (depends how fast you throw) is perfect for the knife to hit the target head on.
If the knife hits the board flat on, adjust your distance or throwing speed:
Flat, blade down or stuck on board handle upwards: Distance is too great or throwing speed to fast. Knife rotates just a little bit too much.
Flat, blade up or stuck on board, handle downwards: Knife hasn't had enough time or distance to rotate enough so step a little further or hold the handle a bit further back (makes the knife rotate a bit faster in the air).
Handle first:
This happens when you are at the mid point of throwing distance (5-15-25ft etc.) or you are throwing by holding the blade (dont do this bare hand!).
Throwing by holding the handle (right way) always add 10ft when you are moving further away from the target and then adjust the distance/throwing speed after one or two throws.

I bought this knife based on the great on-line reviews. After handling it for a while I returned it. I felt the blade was too wide for being so short. The handle was almost too short. My little finger barely fits on the handle. And, I hate the choil. It is not needed on such a short knife. It wastes room that could be used for a cutting edge. And, it is too small to put your finger in, without cutting your finger on the blade. The Fallkniven F1 is a far superior knife.

Comment by Lou   03/27/2016
While the F1 is a better bushcraft knife, and there are better knives for other specific tasks, I think the ESEE is a better all around general purpose knife, and is a great alternative to a folder.

Comment by António Silva   11/15/2013
Although analytically I have to agree with Everett's review (all the aspects he focused are true) when it comes to pick a knife to work with I tend to use the ESEE 3. I have some great knives (including the above mentioned Fallkniven F1) but I usually pick this simple but great to use ESEE 3 knife. Why? Don't know, but it's just as simple as that!I recommend the ESEE 3 and would buy it again.

I have had the VG10 and the 3G versions. Both are great. If you can afford it, the 3G is amazing steel. I am a knife nut. I have lots of knives from Bark River, Fallkniven, Benchmade, Spyderco, Mora, etc. The Fallkniven F1 is absolutely one of the best fixed blade knives I have owned. Some do not care for the rubbery handle. But, I do. It does not get hot or cold with seasons. And, it has excellent traction if wet or bloody. The knife is light and easy to carry. The blade size and shape are very practical. The only negative is the lanyard hole. It is not far enough back on the blade. The hole for the lanyard actually falls directly under my pinky finger.
I highly recommend this knife!

Great workmanship. Poor ergonomics of the handle. The locking bar, on the handle, causes pain to your hand when using the knife. And, these knives are ridiculously priced. A much better knife for the money is the Benchmade Griptillian.

Comment by EWolk   12/05/2013
Everett must be in a poorly ventilated room. I didnt believe the hype but when I handled one for the first time I understood it. Very few knives are on the level of a Sebenza.(definitely not a griptillian, think Ferrari/Camaro)

I am a knife nut. I have and have had many many knives. I love the weight of the knife. The sheath is nice. And, the blade is a good size and shape for general use. However, the handle has finger grooves made of metal. These groves limit the use of other grips. And, they will cause hot spots after some prolonged use.

I am a knife nut. I have several Bark River, Fallkniven, Benchmade and Mora knives. I bought the 3V version of the Fox River for my hunting/outdoor knife. I used it for a short time as a bushcraft knife. I quickly realized the handle is of poor design. It looks very pretty but it is not very good in use. The handle is about 1/4 inch too short. And the sharp edge of the handle near your pinky will quickly give a hot spot. However, I love the blade size and shape. And, I love the Bark River convex they put on most of their knives. I do not recommend this knife until they fix the handle.

Blows Busse away?!?!?! Lol. Funny joke pal. I will take my Busse and cut your bark river in half.

Nurse needs a knife =). This EMT Rescue knife is Boker knives cheap-line Magnum series. It's very basic folding knife with a seat belt cutter and glass breaker at the end of the handle.
Handle is orange anodized aluminium with EMT emblem on it. This knife comes with different blade options (black/gray, straight/partially serrated, clippoint and tanto). This has been the only knife that came with a tool to remove the pocket clip or take the knife completely appart for maintenance.

United Cutlery Willumsen Urban Tac Blondie

Comments:

I love that this knife is under $40 when the custom version runs at least $600. The only thing that differs from the custom is the blade bead blasting isn't exactly the same, but I could also buy a ton more knives with the same money. The framelock does really lock up like a fixed blade and there is no wiggle at all. The deep machined grooves in the G10 can be rough on your hands, but they also offer some great grip. I do like the low profile pocket clip which makes even this giant knife look like a pen in a pants pocket. The blade shape is really cool, although it might not be as practical for an EDC knife, it still slices and stabs well. The serrations make short work of most anything I've thrown at it. The steel could be better, but it's still 440C and holds an edge well. It's not VG-10 but, for $40 it's a great knife. United Cutlery has really stepped up their game with this one.

After SOGFari failed me, I needed to buy a machete that is cut out for....cutting. It wasn't very easy task to find enough specifications of machetes so I ended up asking about their weight (people seemed too lazy to measure the thickness of the blade.).
So here is Linder Convex Machete with 18" blade, wooden handle and scale tipping at 960g (34oz). After one hour walk through the woods chopping down fallen tree trunks (15" dia.) hanging branches and blocking brushes, my hand was klinically dead for few days.
A heavy machete has very good cutting power but the first few times you use one, it really makes your muscles hurt afterwards.
Because the handle is smooth wood with a little curvy shape you really need a gloves with a good grip to get a firm grip of the machete. In summer I just wrap some tennis racket handle grip on the handle to get that grip.
If you are roaming through thick forest with lots of birch, pine and spruce you need a heavy tool to cut through your way. If you are living in a rainforest or a bamboo forest a lighter machete will suffice.

Comment by Miika   02/18/2014
Update:This machete lasted just under a year until the blade snapped in half. Either it was a bad version or the metal fatigues very fast. I'd recommend avoiding this one.
