I started off really loving the Chill. It's aesthetically pleasing, deploys quickly and smoothly, built of decent quality materials, and has nice fit and finish.

However, I've found several things that I really don't like about it over time. For whatever reason the Chill doesn't hold an edge particularly well. For whatever reason it just dulls a bit quicker than other knives I have that use 8Cr13MoV. Maybe it's something to do with the grind. It gets really scary sharp but after cutting anything serious it becomes dull almost immediately.

I also find the pocket clip to be really terrible. Out of the box it was so tight that I had to struggle to clip the Chill into the pocket of my jeans. So every time I used it, I would have to spend two or three minutes trying to put my knife away. That was exceedingly annoying. After a few months the clip did loosen up. However, it loosened up to a point where now the clip barely holds the knife in my pocket. In fact I've had numerous times when I've had my knife pop out when I reached in to grab my phone. That's equally annoying. In fact, that's been so annoying that I've stopped carrying my Chill all together and it sits in the junk drawer of my desk.

In summary, the Chill is a decent knife but there are a few things wrong with it that limit how often one might carry it.

I needed a blade that would be thinner and more lightweight than my Spyderco Tenacious.

Searched out and found this Kershaw Chill.

Right off the bat, I loved the belly on the blade. The nice belly allows good slash cuts in any circumstance. Although there are no thumbstuds, it does have a flipper design deployment which is lightning fast. Thanks to it's phosphorus broze bushings on the locking side and nylon bushings on the non locking side.

What I also love about this blade is the weight. 2oz FLAT. That is extremly impressive. Good strong skeletonized steel liners allows you to have strength and lightweight.

8CR13MoV steel is decent. Holds an edge fairly well for light duty tasks. I would prefer a full flat grind or sabre grind because over time, those grinds are more durable. Comes out of the box razor sharp.

Excellent value, good job Kershaw.

Purchased a Kershaw Chill at my local sporting goods store. Really liked the design, opening system, blade shape and weight. However, after three weeks of handling, the blade is already showing signs of surface RUST along the entire length of the blade! This knife was never used to cut anything but paper. Like many Kershaw knives, the blade is made from 8CR13MOV steel with a bead blasted finish. Plan to return the knife for a full refund.

I bought a partially serrated kershaw chill a few months ago, and edc'd it for a while before giving it to a friend. The knife was exceptional for the money. The Chill has a 3 1/8" 8cr13mov steel blade. In my experience, 8cr13mov performs decently, resists rust well, and sharpens pretty easily. I love kershaws serrations, because they dont shred the material that you are cutting, unlike many other brands. One of the main criticisms i had against the knife was the lack of jimping, but i feel that this was made up for by the finely checked g-10. i took a dremel to the spine of the blade anyway to get some jimping. I was afraid to really use the knife for anythings higher than light tasks because i just dont trust liner locks much. I did start to get some side to side play after a little while, but this was fixed by slight adjustment of the pivot screw. There is no thumb stud on the blade, but the flipper works perfectly, and is decently fast. Overall I liked the knife a lot, and for $16 how can you go wrong?
