I've EDC'd this for over 10 years. Literally wore out 2 blades which were replaced under warranty. If there is a 1 tool option, this may be the one. The stainless construction is durable and the tools were generally adequate to the task. Preferred the heavier scissors on the older model though. Large Zip ties are a bit too much for them to handle. In a "no weapons area" this is a tool, not a weapon. Much handier than just a knife, but it will be heavier to carry. I can highly recommend this tool.

A great tool able to handle medium duties well. In fact, mine once rescued a maintenance man from a jammed elevator not long ago. Everyday this tool finds use.
I do edc my wave along with my zt 0801, saving the zt blade from tough utility roles better served by the wave. It's three inch fully serrated blade and its other clip point edge handles cutting chores.

It has a micro phillips and plain screwdriver. A medium phillips and large plain type. A saw, a file with metal filing side and diamond grit side. Pliers with various places to cut wire round out the tools....plus an aftermarket pocket clip.

i own every leatherman tool made up to the MUT ( which i will never get because its way too pricey). i love the wave. the one pictured is the second edition or rerelase. it has some improvements over the original wave. the wave was the first multitool to have rounded edges rather than squared off . i have given several of my friends waves and have one in each of my tackle boxes.if you don't wanna wear a sheath , i would recommend something from the Juice line . less weighty and more pocket friendly .ive had very few problems with any of my leatherman tools . the old super used to loosen up from time to time but if you know how to tighten the screws thats not too bad of an issue. you can pay more for a multitool but there's no reason to . the wave is a great tool .

You can purchase a pocket clip that attached to your wave, which is how I sometimes carry mine.

Very handy knife. Has many useful tools on it. Saw is incredible. Screw drivers have held up to more force than I thought they would. Knife is good, but I wouldn't push it past light duty. That's what the Buck knife is for. 25 year warranty.

I carry mine daily. I use it daily. I would be lost without it.

I have to say I'm from Italy so you could understand the high price and my incorrect English.

Ok, this knife has become a real classic.
I have the one with leather sheath (nice).
I have several victorinox multitools and I wanted to try this one (not so common in Europe).
Pro: the overall quality is great, you can lock every tool, and many of them you can open/close with one hand
Con: the knife is really heavy (about 250 g), it is a tank, about 2 and a half times the victorinox huntsman...

I can recommend this knife, but if I have to travel probably I'll put in my bag and carry a lighter victorinox...

I have owned my Leatherman wave for about 1 week now. I purchased it after using my dads for quite some time and felt that I could do with one. His is an older model, mine newer. Strangely enough his is better, mine came with all the joints, to open knives, the file, the saw and the pliers to be very, very stiff(one hand operation is out of the question). That aside the size is PERFECT and I mean Perfect for ME! I gave the value a 9 considering that it can potentially save your life one day, or even do little tasks that other wise would be a problem

Overpriced for what you get. While design is very good, construction appears to use cheap cast steel on some tools, which break with normal use (i.e., screwdriver will snap off without too much torgue), and sloppy quality control (i.e., uneven knife grinds, overtight tools, etc...).

The Wave's weight (half a pound) and fragile quality does not justify its $60 price tag.

Even Wave is quite old it's my newest in Leatherman family. When I purchased Wave I also got two bit kits with it so it's a complete package.

Now days Wave is pretty much like Charge xx series. It has two bit drivers and scissors. The original wave didn't have bit drivers but static screwdrivers. This new version is more versatile because of different bits you can use.

One thing that I miss on Wave which is present in ALX is the seat belt/gutting hook on the serrated blade. I've been thinking about modifying the blade but so far I haven't had the guts.

If you want a versatile tool with a great price, Wave is the answer if Charge series feels over priced.

I have loved Leatherman since I was a boyscout, and have had several since then. I continue to have several since they are the best multi-tool in my opinion and the Wave does not disappoint. I have had the wave for a while now, it is my around the house tool. I cannot tell you how many times it has helped as we have renovated our house. I have done everything from cutting drywal, to wiring with this guy in my hand. It is like having a whole tool set at your disposal. Great features, not too much so the knife is not overkill, and great ergonomics.

I have had this for over 8 years. This tool is by far the greatest I have ever owned! I have owned a couple of Gerbers before and have had problems with them. I have not had one problem with this at all! Well...there was one thing, the handles became loose over the years of use and the tool would open with almost no effort. I find that to be VERY minor due to all of the abuse I put that multitool through! There were times when I thought the blade was going to snap on me but it held strong and did not stay bent or break. That is truly amazing! I sent it back to Leatherman for repair and they sent me this new one with the scredriver bits. My old one didnt have those. This new one is AWESOME! I kniw it will give me many more years of service just like my older one did. Leatherman started the multitool business so if you are going to get one, get a Leatherman, it is worth the money! Even if I had to go into a survival situation, I would choose my Leatherman Wave over my Swiss Army Knife any day! The saw on the Leatherman can cut like no other! If you dont have one and are thinking of getting one, I highly suggest looking at Leatherman Tools!

I purchased my Leatherman Wave about five years ago, and it has been carried nearly everyday since. I use the heck out of this thing. The variety of tools it features is quite impressive: Pliers, wire cutters, large/small flat and phillips-head screwdrivers, can opener, scissors, etc. These tools work great for light-duty fixit jobs, however dedicated-purpose tools would be more suitable for heavier working loads. The only reason the ergo category gets a 6 is because the handles are a bit chunky to accommodate all of the tools within, however they are very well packaged.

I would highly recommend the Leatherman Wave to every man, woman, and child who are aware & responsible enough to handle sharp objects (so they can stop asking to borrow mine!).

I've carried this for over five years. I had owned Gerber tools before and broke 2 of them.

I figured it was time to try the original and best. I have not been disappointed.

The Wave is heavy and stout. The locking blades are accessible without having to open the pliers (NICE). The inside tools don't lock but I don't find to be a deal breaker. I would much rather have this than the Gerbers I owned that had locking tools but were dangerous because they BROKE just using the screwdriver blades.

Bottom line is the quality is there in a Leatherman. You pay a little more but you do get value for the $ spent.

I love this multi-tool. I have a SOG, Gerber, and others. This is hands down the best multi tool I have ever bought.

Stainless steel. I have had this over a year and have not had to sharpen it yet, however I carry another knife that I use often.

This knife opens smoothly, as you open it you realize what a great job they did designing this knife. The tolerances, the action, and location of implements. Its an engineering masterpiece. I use the pliers all the time. Same with the screwdriver and what a great idea having a reversible bit, love it. I could go on and on about this knife. I am currently about to buy another wave only black this time. If your only going to own one knife, here you go.
