One Man, One Knife? Get Real! I carry Two!

It's Funny how mass media and our favorite military wannabe youtube guys like to state that they carry only one knife and that this would be the only knife that they would carry, and it is even more astounding that we have seen even more nitwits with these knifes thrusting their blades trough steel doors and chairs just to make a statement. yet, however bogus these video may seem they do tell some truth, to date I've owned may a cold steel blades, everything from the tiger claw karambit, to the machete. and over all they've been pretty impressive for the price, and this knife is no exception. with it's impressive weight and durability I would proclaim that this knife is not simply a tactical wannabe, but a true fighting mans blade. not two weeks after did I make my initial purchase did i go out and buy two more. an extra one for my belt, and one for my buddy. in all I usually carry about four blades and hands down, two of them are these spartans. now unlike most i won't be going out to cause a massacre for all to know, or catch the eyes of my local news station as the next jack the ripper, but i will say this, if old Jackie dose appear in front of me, you can be damn sure that he'll have a damn hard time cuttin me up with these in my hands.

pros: good weight, strong blade, good edge, great handle.

cons: spring clip is set way to low that it's hard to deploy quickly.

{side note} con can be solved with some cord tied into the convenient holes that they have drilled into the end to make a tail to grab on to, to deploy.

This thing is a beast. Razor sharp and very nicely balanced in hand. It feels solid and would highly suggest it to anyone who wants a good survival knife. It can easily replace a hatchet. The only downside is the price, I got the SK5 version and I still paid well over $150.

Well... I must say that I am dissappointed in this knife. Right out of the box I thought that it was one of the best knives I'd ever bought. And it all went downhill from that point. The ergos are fantastic, and I've not had any real problems with the steel as I have heard that some folks have. But in lock-up and blade play is where this blade fails miserably. I do not carry it any more because I fear that the dang thing will close up on my hand while in use. And there is blade play even when I tighten up the pivot torx screw all the way. I could not reccomend this knife at all for those reasons.

This knife is good, however one aspect is the handle. The handle of the buck 119 special is very thick... almost too thick to use. its a good knife for 44 bucks! (dicks sporting goods) the factory sharpness is great! it sliced right through a 1 inch diameter fine and kept going! Iv only used this knife for about 2 weeks and it hasnt posed many problems YET. The one bad thing about this knife is the grips. when wet the grips easily fall out of your hand. the sheath is alright... bland but it gets the job done

This is a great knife! It is the tightest balisong that I've ever felt, though I have not felt them all. The fit/finish of this knife is very nice, and tight, with no side to side blade wiggle evident. I really like the extra thickness of the S30V blade. The handle feels good and is comfortable in my hand and if I were to edc a balisong, this would be the one. It came with a razor sharp, hair popping edge. The only break-in I had to do was to consistently disengage the latch when in the closed position, but after a few days that was done.

I'm not a bali swinger so I don't know how this knife would actually do in that process. I only need to be able to open and close it with speed and confidence that I will not cut myself!

If I could change one thing on this knife it would be the blade length as I would want it increased to 4.25" or maybe a little more. Otherwise it is a really great knife as it comes......IF you can find one that is.

I've used this knife now for about 3-5 months. I rotate it with a Spyderco folder as an EDC.

Pros - This think just looks great and the quality is amazing. Very durable and feels pretty good in the hand. Above all else, the assisted opening is flawless, after moving the thumb stud a little the blade flys open very quickly and even has a quite a kick compared to any other assisted opener i've used. I've never owned a knife with D2 tool steel before this one, but from what i've seen, it sharpens quite easily and holds an edge very well, and very durable, I've dropped it numerous times(and so has a friend of mine because of the opening kick)and not until a recent drop did the tip chip. Not a worry though, it wasn't much that chipped off and easily sharpened back to a decent tip until i sharpen the blade up a few more times later on to match up with the tip.

Cons - Not too much to say here, but personally i think the grip could use a little more traction, especially on the thumb ramp.

All in all, a very solid, good looking knife with an impressive assisted opening action. Definately a very good quality knife

Torx 8 and 6 cover pretty much all Benchmade screws.

Comment by mike   10/27/2012
I received the knife last week as an early Christmas present-on sale at $120. It arrived in just two days from an outfit in Ohio. The knife is solid and weighs a little more than expected due to the materials so it will take a little getting used to to carry daily. I thought I ordered the model with the rubber grips but it came with the G-10. Benchmade should have included the screw wrench so I'm having to hunt one up to avoid paying an additional $20 for a set I probably will never need. If you're in the same boat, I think it's a torx 8. One thing I would change is the plastic thumb safety that seems a little light on an otherwise quality knife. Everything else in good order thus far but I have yet to put any miles on it.

Simplicity, simplicty. The single shot shotgun of folding knives.

I believe simple and tough is the formula for reliability. This knife is definitely that. It consists of a blade, a blued steel handle bent out of a single piece of steel, a very strong spring and a lanyard loop. Six parts in total if you count the rivets! From what I've read, this knife is 1075 carbon steel with a hardness of RC 52-53. Mighty soft by today's knife standards, but mighty flexy and forgiving in my hand in the way [great]grandma's old black steel kitchen knives were.

As soon as I received this knife, I oiled the pivot and wiped the excess drop over and into the carbon steel knife and handle. I then laid the knife on the diamond laps to sharpen, and in very little time and effort found myself holding a scary-sharp hair-popper that needed only a little knotted thong to give me something to grab onto when it was slipped into my pocket.

With that knot was in place, I put this knife in as my daily carry blade and have used it for everything I've run into over this past week. It has served as a steak knife against porcelain plates, sharpened pencils, opened boxes, cut leather against wood, performed one minor sticker removal surgery, opened letters and removed toys from those annoying clear plastic blister packs in which they often arrive. In all this use, the surprise for me was in how well the edge rode through it all for holding such a low temper, and in what fantastic cutting geometry the blade itself carried. It seems to slip through whatever work you put it against due to the full and ever-so-subtly hollow grind. This knife is just that, a KNIFE, optimized to cut well rather than being designed to multi-task as a tactical rescue death ninja prybar tire tool. The adage says, "Do one thing, do it well!"

In practice, I've found this knife to be a joy to use, and I will be handing them out to people near me. My only regret is that I didn't find the Douk Douk for sale for around twenty dollars until I'd already ordered mine for thirty-five.

I've only had this knife about 3 months, but so far I like it a lot. I keep it in my day hike bag for short trips into the woods and it's been working well for me. I've been using it for general utility tasks and it's working well. It was quite sharp right out of the box and it holds an edge well. The skeleton handle is not the most comfortable, but it works. I'm considering wrapping the handle with some 550 cord to improve the grip. Overall, it's a good little knife and I only spent about $33 for it on Amazon. I'm confident this is a knife I can rely on.

The Kydex sheath is a little on the large side, but it holds the knife well and it has enough grommets to give a lot of carry or mounting options.

Although it's intended as a neck knife ("Becker Necker") it's a little big to wear around your neck under clothing. As long as you keep it outside your clothes it does work fine as a neck knife, though.

I've been carrying a Spyderco Delica with a Black Blade in my pocket almost everyday for about 4 months. It has a nice size, not too big - not too small. It's not too heavy in the pocket and it's easy to open and close with one hand. The VG-10 steel in the blade holds an edge very well. The Delica is a great knife at a great price.

For a small fixed blade this can't be beat!! Most fixed blades in this catagory have small handles and if you have a larger hand than most 12 year olds your grip is compromised. Not the case here, Benchmade did it right. Very light weight as well for ease of carry. I made my own kydex sheath and this knife hardly prints when I wear it horizontal crossdraw on my hip shirt untucked..
