I own a dozen or so knives and this one is my favorite. I have the limited-edition orange G-10 handled version. I love it. It feels solidly built and is not a lightweight knife. I like that about it. I would carry it more often but I like to keep it pristine looking. Very cool looking blade. This knife has the crispest opening action of any knife I have ever held. It is tough and rugged, from blade to handle and locking mechanism. This blade is probably too large for EDC for most folks. Nonetheless, the cool factor for this knife is off of the charts and it is a steal for the price. Kershaw hit a home run on this one.

Very nice all-purpose knife. Could be used as a EDC blade. I think it's a big on the large and heavy side for this but it could easily be done. I have 2 of these and like them very much. Very comfortable, nice looking, and they open very quickly. A good value in a knife.

also i forgot to add, the blade is coated with a black epoxy to prevent rusting but it makes it so you have to use the blade side with a flint to start a fire. if you are going to do so use another knife if you have one and use the tip as opposed to the base of the blade. if you dont have another knife use the very tip of the blade, as close as possible to the point.

this knife is a great small survival knife. the handle has finger grooves which make the feel and weight of the knife as a whole feel amazing. this knife is great for skinning, carving, notching, drawing, and anything that needs finer detail that a bigger survival knife couldnt do. when paired with the Tom Brown Tracker (also reviewed on this site) they make a great survival knife combo. the scout comes with a kydex sheath that has a belt clip, but you can get aftermarket ones made out of leather. the blade is painted with a black epoxy to prevent rusting which is good but it makes it so you have to use the blade side of the knife with a flint to start a fire. most people probably know but if you have to use the blade side, use the tip instead of the base of the blade because you use the base the most. here are the specs.

Blade Detail: Plain
- Blade Length (inches): 3.00
- Blade Material: 1095 HC, Black
- Carry System: Kydex Sheath
- Handle Material: Micarta
- Overall Length (inches): 7.25

Excellent knife, very pleased with mine. I bought it for every day carry. It is big enough to be effective, yet small enough to not be too uncomfortable. Well worth every penny paid.

this "knife" can do it all. it can carve, chop, split wood, be used as a drawing knife, notch, saw, and skin. it is the ultimate survival knife. i have used it minimally so to save the blade, but it does do everything it is supposed to. it is a well balanced knife and feels great in your hand. it comes with a kydex sheath but you can buy aftermarket leather ones. if you have seen the movie The Hunted with benecio del toro and tommy lee jones, the knife in that movie was based off of this one. this knife is big but when paired with the Tom Brown Scout (also reviewed on this site) they make a great survival team. here are the specs.

-Made from 1/4" 1095 High Carbon Alloy
-Coated in special black traction epoxy for rust proofing
-11.5" long overall length
-2.5" carving blade
-3.5" chopping blade
-Handles are gray micarta

Have had tis knife for some time now and if I had choice for trap building and small jobs, this is it. It cuts the small notches, preps fire wood and does everything I need it to do. No problems or worries since. The weight is just perfect for its purpose, worth every penny.

Nice to hear some positive comments about the Tom Brown Tracker knife! The heck with the hype and movie stuff, I have knives costing three times as much, but taking one knife into the wilderness, I'd grab the Tracker!

I too own one of these knives...There is a learning curve to using it but once you get the hang of it you will find that it will satisfy your needs.. I work with metal and have forged it for many years...The steel used in the Tracker sharpens easy and holds an edge..The shape of the blade takes practice to sharpen but once you learn how is no problem...The bottom line is if I only had one knife for use in the woods for survival this would be it...But who only carries one knife??? Hehe

I got this knife because it looked like fun and i had never seen a knife like it before. it is built well like all cold steel products but it isnt very practical. i have the tanto blade because the double sided blades arent legal in CA. the handle is aluminum so if the knife is wet with sweat or blood it will get very slippery. there is a lanyard hole but who has time to put on a lanyard in a pinch. when locked open the blade will stay locked as long as you have a grip on it. the way you open and close the blade is by a flick of the wrist which is fun and i can imagine would look intimidating to someone trying to attack you. this knife is not a butterfly knife and is perfectly legal in CA. the handle has some bamboo shoots engraved in it for design. with all the use this knife gets the handle does get scratched where the aluminum overlaps. here are the specs.

this knife will feel very familiar to anyone who has or has handled a switchblade. this knife IS NOT a switchblade and is perfectly legal in CA. i use it for self defense. the blade is very thin as is the knife and is used mainly for stabbing. it is very sharp out of the box and can slice but it is mainly a stabbing knife. this is my first six inch knife and it took a little getting used to, but after a little "playing around" with it, i really like it. one of the best features of the knife is the "pocket snag" or quillion. it makes for fast opening right out of your pocket. you will need to be careful when taking it out of your pocket because some people open it accidentally. when closed this knife also doubles as a "pocket stick" or yawara stick, for non lethal blows. here are the specs.

this knife is really great for anyone looking for an all purpose folder. i have the spear point with half serrated blade. if i could go back i would have gotten the tanto with half serrated blade, but i am happy with the spear. the knife has a unique locking mechanism and is one of my favorite parts of the knife. it makes opening and closing the blade very fast and smooth. the lock itself is very sturdy and will not close the blade unless you want it to. the handle is g-10 which i really like because it will not slip out of your hand even if the knife is wet. i use this knife a lot and the only wear is under where the clip hits when you take it out of your pocket, and the black paint on the blade is coming off in places. not a big deal in either case. one flaw i can think of is if you use this as a survival knife, the blade is painted over black, so if you want to use it with flint you would have to use the blade side. only a minor drawback. i do however like the black blade because it makes for a less reflective surface area if youre trying to be stealthy. here are the specs of the knife.

Weight: 5.6 oz.
Blade Thick: 9/64" (3.5mm)
Blade Length: 4"
Handle: 5 1/3" long. G-10

I've only had this knife for a little over six months now but it is one of my favorites. I use it for self defense. It is strictly a slicing knife and not good for stabbing. which is the main reason i carry it on my support side. works perfect for righties who carry knives with an earth grip with their support hands. Fortunately i have not had to use the knife to defend myself so i cannot say how it holds up to wear and tear. the blade has a very smooth action when opening and closing. the only flaw i can find in it is a personal thing. i like the thumb stud as opposed to the hole in the blade but its a minor minor set back and did not turn me away from the knife. the handle of the knife has a great feel and will not slip even if the situation becomes bloody. here are the official specs of the knife.

Blade Thick: 4mm
Blade Length: 4"
Handle: 5 1/4" long G-10 w/titanium bolsters

Weight: 6.6 oz
Steel: San Mai III

Both an elegant gent folder and an efficient EDC.
The 154CM steel is just tremendous, easy to sharpen and holding a very good edge for a long time.
Axis lock is sweet and strong.
You don't feel it in the pocket and the clip is weel designed.
And what a look ! One of the most beautiful knife I own...I do not regret my purchase !

Here is my review of the Benchmade 553SBK and SOG Trident Tanto

The Benchmade blade is just over 3.5" and is a combo blade. The axis locking system is incredibly secure with almost NO back and forth movement - a very stable blade. The blade locks in place with a similar sound to that of a mag slammin into a gun. The grip is solid and fits well in my hand. The handle is just over 4.5" and clips easily into my pocket. I was concerned with the length of the handle would be too big for any everyday carry, but it is not. The knife has performed well with easy tasks (cutting vegetables, paper, boxes and opening Christmas plastic wrapping). Cutting small branches, rope (all types), prying off lids (tanto blade adds strength to the tip) and all my other chores, the blade has performed admirably. The blade is 154CM steel and should hold an edge well and is easy to sharpen.

This is a solid knife and will provide years of solid service.
