Got this knife before last weekend and took it on a camping trip. This thing is strong, simple, sharp, utilitarian and all at the same time really nice. i used it for food prep, processing a lot of fire wood (via chopping and batonning) and general camp chores, slicing line, prying open containers, etc. One weekend outing does not make for a thorough review, but so far I am very impressed. The feel is very nice in my hand and the balance and weight just right. I have several large knives (Rtak 2, trail master, Ranger bowie and kuckuri) and i think i like this one the best of the lot (especially when you adjust for price). This is now going to be my go to blade. Oh yeah it is still really sharp, so really good edge retention. The sheath is OK, simple nylon with a plastic insert. My next project is going to be to make a kydex sheath for it.

I work in hotels where I can't freak out a client by pulling out some giant flicker. The Sage 4 is the perfect balance of elegance, function, and super sharp-ness that I was looking for. The typical Spyderco open assist hole took some getting used to, but ultimately I find that I really appreciate the absence of a big stud on either side of the blade. My only other minor issue is with the style of the clip. It is very easy to pocket because of its design, but it seems to catch on stuff a little easier than I would like. Looks wise, it's them prettiest knife I've ever owned by far. Super good construction, The blade holds an edge wonderfully, and when sharp can really do some damage. I love this knife.

I watched SEVERAL video reviews of this knife before I decided to purchase it and I couldn't be more happy with the money I spent on it. I used it to cut down 3 small (4 inch wide) oaks and it took less than 2 minutes on each one. After I accomplished the feat, I was still able to shave the hair off the back of my arm! This knife will more than handle all your outdoor needs. I look forward to owning more knives from this company. :)

-Price Paid: $18.00

Comments:

The ergonomics on the Asset are great; I have large hands that can make using some small knives tricky, but the Asset fits my hand perfectly. It's assisted action isn't as smooth as others I've used, but it works well enough. The ergonomics are a 9.

The build quality is good for a knife in this price range, but the steel leaves something to be desired; the edge has virtually no cutting power more than a millimeter or two from the point. It simply won't take an edge comparable to my Gerber in (I think) 420HC or my other Kershaw in 14C 28N. Even my old $5 Maxam in cheap 420 Stainless will take a significantly sharper edge. Given the knife was primarily acquired for slicing and cutting, this has been a disappointment. Its not that the Asset can't be used for slicing. Unfortunately, every other knife I own does it better. Given that, the build quality is a 6

The Asset was not expensive, and its a very solid knife for what you get. If the steel was better, you'd be looking at a 10. As it stands, the fact that I was moved to replace it for EDC after a few months because I was having difficulty cutting through cardboard despite several sharpenings says something about it. Value is a 7.

Overall, the Asset is a 7. While I like it in every other regard, the difficulties with the steel and the cutting edge persuaded me to replace it after a few months.

The HOG 4.5 is designed to be one tough blade. It is strong for its size and can do several different types of tasks. I batoned wood, cut tons of material and it still has a sharp edge on it. This is on the same playing field with the ESEE Laser Strike, ESEE4, and TOPS B.O.B. It is a very reliable blade that is defiantly worth taking a look at.

StatGear T3 Tactical Auto Rescue Tool

-Price Paid: $40.00

Comments:

I purchased this knife after seeing it reviewed in a magazine. I was thinking I'd just buy a couple and leave one in mine and my wife's cars but I found it so handy that I decided to make it my EDC knife. It has a solid feel to it with a comfortable rubberized grip. The serrated blade is 440c and extremely sharp. I have been using it often and the blade has retained its edge very well. There is a flip out 440c seatbelt cutter which I have found very useful in cutting rope and cords. There's also a very handy, although not incredibly bright LED light. It also has a spring loaded window punch which sure is useful to have in case of an emergency but thanks G-d I haven't had to use it just yet! The knife comes complete with a really great sheath that fits on my belt and snaps shut. I'm thoroughly happy with this knife and recommend it to my fellow volunteer EMS guys and gals as well as their families.

I went to go visit some extened family of mine in Belize (Central America), while there I needed a native Machete souvenir for my Father. The Machetes they sold had a custom handmade carved thick leather sheath and the Machetes where made out of Ceramic steel. They are really hard to sharpen, but they don't rust that easly. Very humid in the Jungle at Banana River. The Condor Kukri Machete is closest thing that is better quality than the Machetes in Belize.

I've had this knife for about three months now and it's still as sharp as the day it arrived to my house. The assist mechanism is extremely reliable and lightning fast. I really like the grip surface on the scales as well - it provides a really sturdy surface to hold to. All for $68 - it's a hard value to beat.

I really hoped this would be the knife to end the search for replacing Cold Steel SRK but..

I like the knife having certain size weight ratio which Thug misses about 70grams. Even the blade is full tang it's not actually full steel under the handle but more like a skeleton. This was probably done to cut down the weight but because of that the knife loses a lot of cutting/hacking power. The good thing about the skeleton style is that you can easily replace the micarta handle with paracord lacing. Also reduced weight on the back moves the balance right at the choil point which makes the knife usable for finer work.

Handle provides a good grip whether it was pouring rain or dry. The so called 'shock absorber' (thin red cardboard - like layer) is not really doing anything (like it's not on TOPS knives either) but it gives the knife sexier look.

I like the MOLLE compatible sheath even if the blade rattles around a bit (was easily fixed). The idea of having a small pouch on the sheath gives you the opportunity to carry a fire starter and a small sharpener with you. The sheath comes with some paracord wrapped around so this set is pretty complete survival knife.

... But still my search continues =)

This thing is well worth the money. It fits the bill for many tasks and the serrated edge is more useful than you think having a sheepsfoot design. The only problem is it is hard to sharpen. No rust at all!

I purchased this knife in CMP-3V. First of all I have no confidence in the sheath after the leather beds in. A secondary retention is needed. The knife design is good, with good weight and ergonomics. Now for gripes. 1. poor grinding around the heel (opposite sides of blade do not match). 2. this thing is not sharp at all (struggles to cut printer paper at times), certainly is not sharp enough to shave even a single hair when run down my forearm. For a knife that cost me $350 US delivered to me in Australia, I would have expected a little more in the way of pride of workmanship, and a knife that was sharp.

I found the same, but also noticed the edge dented slightly when I cut a plastic price tag retainer tie off a shirt I purchased. It was a very thin nylon type tag retainer. I tried cutting the same with several of my other blades with no ill effect. I don't know what Bark River is doing, but my vote is no confidence.

I've only had this gem for about two weeks, but it's a winner for the price. I removed the belt clip to make the profile pocket friendly. Where I work everyone carries a knife to cut plastic wrapped pallets. This little guy does the job just fine without being to bulky. A GOOD BUY !!!!
