I had one of these knives for a short time and it seemed to handle very well. It cut okay and the lock design is brilliant once you get used to it. I did not pay very much and I wish it came without serrations. I could see this knife being good for someone backpacking or mountain climbing.

For the price, this knife is surprisingly well built, balanced, and feels great in the hand. The Zyzel handles and large finger choil make handling the knife a pleasure. The liner lock is very solid, as is with my other CRKT knife that I own (M16-13Z). The oversized thumb studs make opening the knife very easy and the blade snaps into place very smoothly. CRKT's LAWKS safety system turns this tactical folder into a virtual fixed blade, plus adding to the safety that the blade will not close by accident. My only regret is that the pocket clip is NOT designed for versatile carry and is only available in right-side, tip-down carry. Despite the clip issue, I absolutely love the feel and design of this knife and although some may feel that 5.6oz may seem a bit heavy for an EDC, this one is going to be in my EDC rotation for a long time. Very highly recommended for those looking for an inexpensive, yet very well designed and functional tactical folder.

For a long time I have been looking for fix blade knife small enough to be carried on my belt under pleat of shirt and this is the choice. 1095 steel,12 cm long (5.5 cm for the blade), 6 mm thick with anti corrosion coating and . Small good looking EDC all purpose knife. The handle is small than hand but the design allow comfort grip even with three fingers. However this is very short blade and there is almost no cutting ability but the knife is suitable to be attached to shaft and used as machete or spear. Curve in the front of handle serving as guard - the knife is comport for normal and reverse grip. I used this intensively during last months from garden work and mountain expedition to the office tasks, in winter and summer conditions - extremely handy sturdy little knife. My brother who is enthusiastic outdoors man found that it is suitable for any bush crafting activities

Great knife. Ergonomics are good...although a little rough (you will certainly never drop this knife). Lock-up is strong. Blade steel is fantastic. Overall, this knife is a great value and a hard-use folder.

I have the same knife but with serrated blade. I don't know but Kivalo may be have too fat fingers or my fingers are too thin - there is nothing as "pain on the side of the index finger" with me. I used this knife mainly as little pocket sickle for collecting plant probes. The serration is very good too deep by my opinion so I was able to cut some little tree branches using knife as saw. Until now there is no need for resharpening which is surprisingly according to low value steel(AUS-4). I used top non serrated part ob blade for deep timber penetration and bark scrape - no problems or edge loosing. Deep serration however not allow knife to be used for some common every day tasks
The sheath is cool - have a clips which can be fixed upward or downward or knife can be carry on neck. I have no problem with draw of knife even when i carry it on back of my waist. By my opinion the handle is very comfortable and ergonomic - my girlfriend also think that it is cool. The knife definitely is suitable for women.

I picked up this knife on one of those "deal of the day" offers online. There was a choice of 5 Kershaw assited-openers and I chose the Asset base on it's 3.8 oz. weight and substantial size. I thought the design was also very unique.

The knife I always use is a 16 year-old Spyderco Delica. It has some scratches, a little rust (I guess I neglected it a bit), and the blade was dull. I was going to send it back for sharpening and wanted another knife as a stand-in.

The Kershaw Asset was cheap. Too cheap to pass up. The online deal was $12 plus $5 shipping. I saw it as an opportunity to get a little bigger knife than my small Delica. I wanted something with a blade over 3" and I really wanted the assisted opening ability. The Asset is 3 1/4", big enough, but not so big that it is scary, or heavy.

I was surprised when I received the knife. It was constructed much better than I thought it would be. It is well made. The 3.8 oz. weight is a little heavy. I am used to my old Delica, which is a FRN handle with no metal liner. That knife is like carrying a feather. The Asset is thick (thicker than I thought it would be) and has a liner. The blade is also fairly thick and flat ground. Adding the assited opening mechanism doesn't help the weight either. If you are looking for light weight, you can do better.

The knife came sharp, I was impressed. I was able to get it sharper with just a little work. Very nice. It's sharp enough for anything I need it for. The blade opens quick enough, but it is no switchblade. It kind of "flips" open. Lock up is perfect, with no wobble at all. I don't prefer liner locks, but it has one. Most people don't know how to close it. People that see it like it. It looks a little intimidating due to the blade shape, which is probably a bad thing in most cases.

The pocket clip is very tight. I cannot see this thing falling out of my pocket, but more so fraying the edges of my pocket. Probably not the worst thing. I am used to a plastic pocket clip on the old Delica. The best thing about the plastic is that it does not scratch things that I bump into (like my car) when I have the knife clipped to my pocket. This knife has a metal clip, which I think is the current standard.

If you are looking for a well-constructed knife, rock solid lockup, assisted opening, a 3 1/4" blade that is SHARP, and it has to be around $20, I'm pretty sure that won't be able to get better than the Kershaw Asset. It's alot of knife for the money. I'm thinking you could spend double the money without getting anything better. We'll see how it holds up...it is made in China, you know.

I intend on buying another Kershaw.

I have to give this knife 10s all the way it is the 2nd best folder I own or have used the first being a ZT650st. I bought this one to carry when I am going places that I may scare people with the big auto 650. This is a beast of a knife and can take anything you want to throw at it. The ergos are top notch with jimping where you need in and none where you don't it fits the hand in any grip from delicate cutting choked up to self-defense draw grip. The s30v hold a razors edge forever I have cut cardboard, cordage, meat, and veggies darn near everything and it just stays sharp. I find that just the size and sound of this knife locking up is reminiscent of crocodile Dundee "that's not a knife". LoL If you are looking for a strong sharp and easy to carry tactical folder I would look very hard at this one. It is my personal opinion that the ZT folders are one of if not the best value in the knife world today.

I bought this knife as an EDC back up knife to the folders I usually carry and it is the perfect companion to a larger knife. The fit and finish on mine is excellent as is the feel in the hand. I find myself going for it when I have to do some more precise cutting because of its small size and easy to switch grips ergos. The blade holds an edge well for what it is and I usually do a light touch up once a month no it's not a VG or other top of the line steel but for fewer than 20 dollars I couldn't be happier. My sheath doesn't rattle at all and it is so light and comfortable to wear I forget it's there. Get one you will like it. They also make it in drop point and tanto now.

Let me start right off the bat by saying this is my favorite folding knife hands down...and I have owned MANY different folders. However, I feel its important to note one major factor before I move on to the actual knife. This knife (and any Hinderer knife) is pretty hard to get. These knives are only sold directly from the manufacturer to law enforcement, EMT/EMS, military etc. All other sales are conducted through various dealers. Unless you are in one of the previously listed categories, you must pay secondary market prices which usually average around $700 . That being said, you can, on occasion, get a good deal as I did but it is VERY hard to come by a price below $650. Anyway, on to this incredible piece.
Prior to purchasing my XM-18, I carried mostly a Chris Reeve Sebenza or a Strider SnG. Both of them are great but to me, the XM-18 takes the impeccable fit and finish of a Chris Reeve piece and melds it with the pure ruggedness and tough styling of a Strider. While it may not look "elegant" to most people, the XM-18 is truly a beautifully crafted piece of functional art. There is not one single piece out of place or improperly aligned on my XM. it feels amazing in-hand and does so in a variety of grips. Both a flipper and non-flipper version are available but I personally enjoy the flipper but it's really just preference. Both however, lock up like bank vaults. ZERO blade play in any direction. It opens smooth as butter and doesn't feel gritty at all. In addition, every bit of the knife is over-built and tough as nails. Not to mention every piece(even the hardware)is built right in the U.S.A. (Ohio). Overall, this is just an unreal knife. If you have the opportunity and funds to purchase one, I highly recommend you do so. To me, this is the ultimate in modern tactical-style folders.

Nice review, $700 sounds really really good for a hinderer, cos in Australia they cost $1400!!!!

Advantages - very well made. Surprisingly strong liner lock especially for the price - no blade play at all even after hard uses as cutting and batoning . Non - standard but extremely sharp and durable blade. I'm not fan of serrated blades but this knife convince me. By me this is the most appropriate serrated blade design in the world!
Saw is awesome as and screw-drivers. The handle is very ergonomic
Disadvantages - the blade is blunt so I file the tip of the blade to achieve needle point tip
The blade can not be open quickly with one hand even with flip - there is some kind of barrier to prevent this so you must make two movements with thumb to open the blade
I think - will be much better if victorinox start make the folders with clips - the luck of clips is the most annoying things of this excellent knives.
That's why I can rank soldier as EDC knife
