I love this knife, I have added a large Tek-Lok to the sheath to be able "scout carry" I also have an Esee accessory pouch with a survival tin along with a kydex firesteel sheath. This is my "go to" knife for all outdoor activities. I have put it through the ringer as a bushcraftknife, a cooking knife and a large game skinning knife. It takes and holds an edge perfectly. I saw a review that it isn't ergonamically comfortable, but I think that my just be a personal preference, everyone that has used mine has purchased one of their own. As for chopping,I don't think it is designed to be a"chopper", the point of balance is too near the center for much more than trimming smaller branches one handed. If you are looking for a great longer heavy blade for chopping I suggest the Ontario SP-8. I have used my Esee -5 it to notch tent pegs and I have had no issues batoning with it, the weight and thickness of the blade make it an all around great outdoor knife. I have not yet tried the bow drill divot so I can't comment on it's effectivness.
I would (and have) recommend this knife to any serious outdoorsman, or even a part time camper. It stays with me in my truck as part of my Get Home gear. Sort of like American Express I don't leave home without it. Great job Esee Knives!
