Comments:
This knife is a tank of a work horse, worth more than a 10 in in the overall category to say the least. The spear point is reliable, the belly and tang of this blade are both full, and the edge retention is excellent. Yes, the blade coating will wear off but all of them will. The spine is thick and sturdy and runs almost the entire length of the blade meaning this is a monster batoner. The functional weight is blade forward which is what you want out of a good chopping knife. The overall weight is much lighter in the hand than one would expect, due to the strict quality controls of the GEN II line over at Ontario. I believe that all the spec plus 2 knives are x-rayed before leaving the factory. There are plenty of videos on you tube about how well this knife works in the field and after testing it myself, I agree. This knife excels in wood processing. Great chopper, great for batoning, and good at being used as a two handed draw knife. The sheath is nylon and has two adjustable snap retainers. I prefer nylon sheaths to kydex as they are less expensive and can me used for more things if need be. The handle does very well at absorbing the vibrations from both strikes with the knife and batoning. I did find it a little slick when wet so I rolled on some truck bed liner a friend had lying around for extra grip. This can also be done by using a round tipped soldering iron or even a nail and candle to create dimples in the material. The coating of the blade prevents the use of the knife as a striker for fire rods. That's ok, this knife is a little big to use in that application and I have other options. All and all, its a great knife that is not too big nor two small to be used in the roles of wood processing, survival, or large game sportsman blade. Any price below a hundred dollars is well worth the quality of this knife sine the value of the knife exceeds a hundred dollars.
