My first al mar. I own several Emersons. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this knife. It's very rugged and well built. The fit-finish is amazing, the sharpness is as well. I can't believe the finish on the satin blade. It rivals any custom knife. I still carry my Emerson as my edc, but would be just as comfortable with my al mar. The only thing I would change is the low ride of the pocket clip for deep pocket carry. For a tactical carry knife I prefer a high ride in my pocket. Aside from that I can find no fault with this combat folder.

I know that this is a big claim, but I would say that the TOPS Knives Silent Hero is the best medium weight survival knife of 2014 to date and one of the best medium weight survival knives of I have ever used and I have used a few. I have owned and hard used everything from the ESEE6, BK7, Survive! GSO-5, RAT7, Cold Steel SRK, SOG Seal Pup, Ka-bar USMC, Buck Punk, Gerber LMF II, and the Ontario SP-42 just to name a few in this medium size range. The Silent Hero beats them all in almost every category.

I see a lot of comments that this knife is not suitable for EDC - boolshit - I confirm, the knife fits extremely well in the standard pants pocket! Yes, it's big, but doesn't weigh too much - only a few grams. So I don't see problems with the size - bigger is always better!
The opening can be fast, with a little training with thumb or wave. The handle is very well shaped, so the knife can be used for any task - from stabbing and slashing to fine cutting.
Referring to rust - yes, the AUS8 steel gets rust, but in every supermarket you can by a wet cloth for cleaning off silver kitchen utensils - perfect results!
In conclusion - if you want to have a really good and reliable knife for any situation - get one of these!

The Mini Onslaught for its price is one hell of a knife, the handle design and build makes you feel like it was custom built. The blade is very thin and is made more for slicing than chopping or stabbing. It carries like a tactical knife and I'm sure would hold its own in a self defense role, similar to the ParaMilitary 2. The Axis lock is buttery smooth as is any Benchmade knife. Buy one now before it's discontinued, it is a really cool folder!

The knife fits well in the hand. The forward choil is useful and confortable for fine work. Razor sharp out of the box. The flipper fires easially and with authority. Excellent lockup and the stainless buffer between the titanium frame lock and the blade eliminates sticking or deterioration of the titanium. The handle scale is oddly patterned but I don't mind it. It certainly subtracts nothing from the knife's performance. An excellent knife.

I picked this knife up a few months ago and have been very happy with it. It's lightweight and really holds a great edge, the perfect knife for backpacking. My only quip is it looks like the sharpener got a little eager and kissed the choil removing some of the cerakote. I also recommend buying through their website as they offer far more colors combinations then are available on Amazon.

The SCAXE2L is designed to be a medium weight axe that can do more then a small hatchet. The ergos, size, sheath design, and chopping power is all there to make this a powerful and useful tool. The 3cr13 steel is ok for the price point, but will not hold its edge as long and more expensive axes, but it is easy to field sharpen. For those of you looking for a cheap axe that can get the job done, this is worth a purchase.

Comments:

For me it was easy pickins between ESEE 6 and this. Since SRK I've found longer blades more comfortable to work with, hence the RAT over the other one.

I think this is the first flat ground knife I have and it feels a tad odd working with it. At first I had serious problems hacking through even the thinnest branches (tho might be b/c of the lightness of the knife and back balance).

Even flat ground blade is supposed to be a better performer while batoning, I just couldn't feel the difference between RAT 7 and SOG Force.

I'd say this knife has rather spot on value for money. Because it's on the cheaper side, you don't need to fret the idea of modifying the handle bits to suit your needs better. For me, the rounded edge of the handles were still too 'sharp' so I sanded them rounder, added some diagonal grooves and used a bit rougher sandpaper to roughen up the surface.

Last but certainly not least, the nylon sheaths with additional pocket for a sharpener and a fire starter is a strong selling point for me =).

For quality/price/size I put this right with Cold Steel SRK, another excellent all-around-knife.

This has been my EDC knife for two years now and is simply the essence of quality. This blade is extremely tough and holds an edge very well and the lock up on this knife is nothing less than top shelf. The blade grind and the recurve edge make this knife a powerful cutting tool. The wide blade can sometimes be a little awkward when doing small fine task but can be overcome with a little experience. The knife is large and will take up a lot of real estate in your pocket so be warned, but the rugged build quality is worth the trade off. The clip can be set in all four positions so no matter your preferred carry style this knife will work for you. Overall one of the finest knives money can buy.

-Price Paid: $47.00

Comments:

My Recon 1 is the spear point 50/50 blade. The handle feels great in the hand especially considering how thin the knife is for a larger folder. I purchased this strictly as a hiking/outdoor knife and it stays stored in my hiking pack between trips so I have no EDC experience with it. The type of serrations on this knife are of a type that still allow the knife to perform well as a woodland knife yet provide all the cutting power that a half serrated blade provides. The AUS8 steel blade (a steel I have had great luck with over the years) holds an edge fairly well, not like the S30V on my ZT 0300 but holds a decent edge none the less and is quite rust resistant. I have been on two 5 day hiking trips with this knife cutting cordage, carving wooden utensils, cleaning fish and after 5 days of heavy use the blade would still shave hair, not like on day one but still very sharp. I have large hands and use gloves when doing woodland chores so a large folder works well for me and the grip on this knife is one of the most comfortable I have used in 40 years of outdoor experience. This knife falls into the high value category. An excellent knife at a very fair price. If you want the quality of a Zero Tolerance or a Benchmade buy a ZT or a Benchmade but for 1/5 the price the Cold Steel Recon 1 is a great value.

what I like best is the steel s35v and only three ounces. it has a shakel cut out to lighten it and yet it really works to turn things. you can carry it all day and not think twice till you need it. the handle is very ergonomic your fingers will not slide off onto blade.
